Description Qualifications:Introduction:Boeing Defence UK is offering the opportunity to provide technical leadership of the BDUK Safety Management System and SMS Team of circa 20 experienced staff. This role will suit someone with a deep but broad area of SMS expertise who enjoys working in a passionate team with a strong drive to improve in an ever-evolving business. The role will involve developing core technical skills within the team and mentoring members of the SMS team. The location of this role can be flexible and we can consider various locations including: Middle Wallop, Bristol, Gosport, Frimley, Yeovil & OdihamThe role:You will support the BDUK P&SS Senior Manager in representing the SMS team at a senior leadership level within Boeing Defence UK and also at senior levels across The Boeing Company including influencing the Boeing Enterprise SMS. The successful individual will act as the Technical Lead for the team and form part of the BDUK Products and Services Safety leadership team. BDUK is looking for someone with drive and enthusiasm to take on this senior level technical safety leadership role to lead SMS planning, implementation and operation across the business for a variety of aviation and non-aviation products and services. These include maintenance, design, engineering support, software and training solutions.Reporting to the Senior Manager for P&SS and working closely with the SMS team manager and SMS leads, you will oversee the assurance and risk management strategies across all BDUK sites and programmes. You will work closely with the SMS core team leads and the SMS teams deployed into programmes to ensure technical outputs are maintained at a high standard. Your role will provide oversight of products such as safety investigations, complex risk analysis papers, risk assessments, bowties, software heatmaps and trending including training designs on those core skills and Just Culture.Responsibilities:Leading the BDUK SMS planning and operation Oversee the continued development of the BDUK Safety Assurance Strategy and Safety metrics/Intelligence Dashboard Development of the SMS continuous improvement plan Evolution of the Centrik Safety and Risk software Act as the Technical Lead Engineer for SMS within Boeing Defence UKProvide review and oversight of risk analysis papersOversight of safety investigationsOverall governance of specialist skills and competence development within the SMS team Advising on Safety Matters with BDUK Senior Leadership teams and senior leadership teams across Boeing Act as the SMS focal for risk escalation, stakeholder review and briefing key leaders Support the Safety Manager in planning and facilitation of the BDUK Safety Review Board including:Development of Safety Review Board presentation material and presentation to the BDUK Leadership teamOversight of the maturity of multiple Safety Action Groups, and programme safety working groups Advising and oversight of SMS strategy; Working with the SMS specialist leads on their strategies in training, assurance and risk management and overseeing their progression and successes Establishing and oversight of effective interfaces with key teams within BDUK and across our suppliers and customers Represent Boeing Defence UK as a Subject Matter Expert internally and externally at industry events, forums and conferencesTravel within the UK is expected and some overseas travel may be required.Personal Qualities:Calm, diplomatic and able to engage and brief concepts and complex issues across the business at all levelsHigh level interpersonal skills and emotional intelligenceCourage and integrity to maintain safety principles in the face of appropriate challengeAble to build respect and trust from peers and senior managementExcellent presentation and verbal briefing skills, able to talk with authority in a clear and concise manner to senior leadership with the right level of detailAbility to drive improvements and strategies forwardGood analytical skillsEssential competencies:Previous experience in a Safety Management leadership role within commercial and/or defence aviation organisationDomain Experience in working in an engineering, maintenance or air environmentSignificant previous experience in briefing senior leadership teams on safetyExperience in leading and facilitating effective Safety Action Groups and Safety Review BoardsFormal Safety Management System trainingDetailed knowledge and understanding of civil and/or defence safety and SMS regulations, standards and legislationSafety Risk management training and experience presenting safety risk information at a senior levelSignificant risk management experience in assessing and analyzing risksThe candidate should possess excellent written and oral communication skills with a proven record in interacting successfully across multi-discipline teamsThe role will have significant UK MoD customer, supplier and wider Boeing interfaces and, therefore, a person who is diplomatic whilst being strong minded is essentialThe ability to obtain UK Security ClearanceDesirable competenciesFormal safety risk management training as part of an MSc. or Post Grad diploma or certificateFormal safety investigation training and experienceAcademic or industry training and/or experience in data analytics e.g. data analysis courses, statistics A level or a degree with statistical elementsExperience using or implementing BowTie Enterprise (previously known as BT Server) or CentrikBowTie XP facilitator with significant experience in creating and maintaining BowTies using BowTie XP advancedExperience as an advanced user in safety reporting and risk management toolsHuman Factors trainer or examiner / supervisorProject management and budgeting skills and experienceSMS Performance and compliance assessment knowledge and experienceBoeing is the world's largest aerospace company and leading manufacturer of commercial airplanes and defense, space and security systems.
