The Client: Our client is a successful independent town planning consultancy based in Manchester. They provide client-focused services to developers, funders, landowners, operators, and end-users. They are active across a wide variety of asset classes with a large project portfolio that includes schemes across a number of sectors that include, but are not limited to: Industrial, Land Promotion, Mixed Use, Care/Extra Care, Leisure, Retail, Education and Town Centre Regeneration. The Role:
As an Associate Planner, you'll be a pivotal member of the team, collaborating closely with clients and colleagues to deliver high-quality planning solutions. We are looking for someone who has the potential for business development activity in the future although this isn't an immediate pressure for the successful candidate due to the volume of existing project work and the scale of the current order book. Alongside project work and business development/client management, Associate Planners also assist in the mentoring and management of junior members of the team. The Key Responsibilities: Devising planning strategies and preparing robust planning statements and reports. Lead major projects and client teams as project manager and coordinate complex submissions on time and to budget. Preparing accurate fee proposals and ensure transparency around WIP and managing expectation through regular and timely fee updates and invoices. Attend meetings with clients, councils, stake holders and represent the business at events. Strong negotiators and client advocates. Instruct Counsel, can draft robust proofs and appear as expert witness. Clear brand awareness and advocate of Mission, Vision and Values. Consistent application of brand through all work and outputs to maintain and enhance the company's reputation. Networking / attending events to raise the company and personal profile and network. Review and present externally (client briefings) and internally to the team. Manage client accounts and maintain close, profitable and long term client relations through regular contact and the quality and consistency of planning advice. Oversee junior colleagues on a resource basis and in terms of career development/CPD. Maintain CPD record and PDP. Advocate of internal systems and work with junior colleagues to ensure all are kept up to date (responsibility lies with the PM). Requirements: Degree in Town Planning or related field. Membership of the RTPI Proven experience in town planning consultancy, with a track record of successful project delivery. Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Salary Band: £45,000 - £65,000 + bonus and a wider benefits package.
