Expected starting salary: £50,880 - £63,600.

The Job

Distribution and Marketing delivers Aegon’s commercial outcomes through promotion of the brand, products and services. The Marketing function drives the innovation, development and delivery of our propositions to our adviser, employer and customer audiences.

As a Senior UI Designer, you’ll be part of our Digital function—the team that shapes Aegon UK’s digital strategy and brings it to life. They drive the user experience (UX) design for our digital platforms. This team provides the direction and strategic expertise required to deliver a brilliant, efficient and effective digital experience across all channels.

Your primary focus will be on establishing, evolving, maintaining, and documenting Aegon’s design system. Collaborating with a team of experts (including external resources), you’ll create UI elements that serve as the core building blocks for Aegon’s digital platforms. These components will be used across various UX layers. Additionally, you’ll collaborate with UX Researchers to refine and optimise the design system. Your passion for exceptional UI and UX will be evident as you articulate its importance from both a commercial and user-centric perspective. Expect to leverage your expertise in innovation, ideation, concept design, and visioning.

Key Responsibilities: Design system establishment and maintenance: you’ll contribute to defining the core elements for establishing and maintaining our Design System. This involves specifying UX, visual, interaction, and motion elements, as well as documenting behaviours and usage guidelines. Additionally, you’ll conduct regular show-and-tell sessions with the team and other stakeholders.

Quality control and optimisation: ensuring that all your deliverables adhere to Aegon’s digital standards, including accessibility, brand guidelines, UX best practices, technology stack considerations, and integration with the Design System. Additionally, you’ll collaborate with the Lead UI Designer to evolve and manage these standards, ensuring consistent implementation across the team through regular UI check-ins.

Champion and consult: advocating for the use of design system assets, including the UI Kit, across the wider UX team and beyond. Ensuring that these assets are employed appropriately to maximise reuse and minimise inconsistencies. Collaborating closely with Design Engineers responsible for building the components your team designs and documents, ensuring alignment with expectations. Additionally, taking on the role of a digital standards evangelist, sharing knowledge about standards compliance—especially accessibility—with colleagues both within your team and across the broader digital function

Manage workload: you’ll actively monitor and manage the tasks assigned to you from the UI Design Team’s backlog. This ensures alignment with business priorities. Additionally, you’ll collaborate with BAU and Agile teams, taking ownership of your features and providing regular updates on their progress.

We’d love to hear from you if you have: Established UI experience: As an Expert UI Designer, you’ll excel in responsive and adaptive web design, with a mobile-first approach. You’ll also be well-versed in accessible design requirements, tools, and techniques (WCAG compliance). Beyond that, you’ll understand how to implement branding across digital channels and adhere to associated standards. Your ability to think systemically and build connections across teams will be invaluable. While expertise in Figma is preferred, proficiency in similar tools like Sketch, or Adobe XD is also welcomed. As a detail-oriented designer, you’ll bring strong knowledge of interaction and visual design, along with familiarity in information architecture.

Desirable but not essential: Having a grasp of relevant front-end technologies (HTML/CSS/JavaScript) and their limitations is preferable.
