Why should I choose Somerset County Council? Good question.

Well, for a start, we’re a hugely ambitious council, committed to improving lives for the residents, communities and businesses of Somerset.

And that’s why we’re working so hard to build a sustainable organisation with a culture that rewards, values and recognises our staff, and gives everyone here the opportunity to grow and develop, personally and professionally.

If you’re looking for a place where you work truly matters - where YOU truly matter - we might be just right for you.

We also promote a healthy work-life balance and offer flexible working arrangements wherever possible, including working from home.

What will I be doing? The team is responsible for delivering high profile construction schemes throughout the County and is currently working on over £30m of schemes in a variety of sectors, education and commercial, for example.

We work tightly as a team relying on each other’s input to deliver the schemes and you will be involved in supporting projects from their first feasibility investigations through to completion in sight and project closedown. Together, we provide advice and support to a range of service areas in relation to future and ongoing construction schemes and you will be involved in supporting the team in all stages of the projects so will increase your skills, knowledge and experience on a wide range of projects.

Your day-to-day work will involve:

  • Arranging and supporting meetings both online and in person.
  • Archiving projects, setting up new project files and updating the project information data base
  • Gathering and passing on information from files and reports in response to requests relating to FOI requests, financial updates, latent defects and other general information requests.
  • Monitor progress on closure of current projects defect lists, proactively chasing for resolution and arranging review meetings.
  • Chasing and gathering responses from internal colleagues such as planning and highway departments

There will be a varying level of oversight and autonomy applied to these responsibilities.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need? We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you:

  • Experience of supporting a team in an office environment.
  • The ability to communication effectively with clients, consultants and contractors.
  • A track record of managing competing workloads and delivering to deadlines.

We’re proud to be here for the people of Somerset. And that means everyone in Somerset. An important part of this is ensuring that we are as diverse and inclusive as the people and communities we serve.

What will I be offered in return? We are proud to offer an environment that is supportive and rewarding, working as part of a team who are passionate about the work they do to improve the lives of people in Somerset.

We offer great training and development opportunities, with supportive management. As well as this, we have some fantastic employee benefits available:
