Health & Safety Officer - Permanent :

  • Dutton Recruitment (Sheffield Engineering) are recruiting:

  • We are looking for a Health & Safety Officer for a permanent position based with our client in Port Talbot.

  • Immediate start available (Subject to the Interview process)

  • Salary is £35,000 per annum.

  • Main Duties: To include, but not be restricted to, the following duties:

  • Provide general support and assistance to the Health and Safety Manager and Site Manager

  • Assist the Health and Safety Manager and Site Manager with Health and Safety monitoring activities.

  • Carry out Health and Safety audits and produce audit reports and follow up any actions.

  • Assist in the identification of need and preparation of risk assessments, compliance, and training of staff, with particular reference to machine risk assessments, manual handling, working at height, etc.

  • Assist site management with the initial investigation of all site incidents and produce suitable investigation reports using standard company forms.

  • Follow up any recommendations following incident investigation.

  • Assist site management with creation of Risk Assessments and Method Statements as and when required.

  • Support Management in ensuring compliance with UK legislation.

  • Advise Management in any perceived failings in any safety management systems.

  • Advise management on failings of employees and provide written reports when required.

  • Attend any local client meetings as H&S adviser.

  • Challenge workplace practices, stopping the job if deemed appropriately serious.

  • Drive the H&S agenda at site level ensuring supporting documentation is accurate and up to date.

  • Provide relevant statistics, charts, presentations etc.

  • Review relevant safety signage within areas.

  • Review the First Aid within areas.

General Duties:

  • To become familiar with the work being carried out at site, including the day-to-day organisation and how this impacts the H&S role. You should be aware of the functions of the members of staff on site and how these affect your work, to maintain high standards of safety and output on the site. Other duties as assigned by the Health and Safety Manager and Site Manager.

  • Requirements :

  • Qualifications:

  • Good general standard of education and spoken and written English. NEBOSH certificate or similar in occupational safety and health.

  • Experience :

  • Experience in heavy industry, up to date knowledge of health and safety legislation and issues in this environment. With experience of health and safety implementation in the workplace, e.g., carrying out risk assessments, investigations, near misses etc. Experience in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Skills and Abilities:

  • Numerate with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent hazard spotting across a wide range of disciplines. Work on own and as part of a small team; take initiative and prioritise own workload. Proactive and with good problem-solving skills. Good customer service/relationship building skills. Ability to review complex information and relate it to the potentially diverse needs of both an individual and the Company. Experienced at taking minutes, carrying out/assisting in safety audits and writing H&S reports.

  • Personal Qualities:

  • Highly motivated and driven H&S adviser, effective team player, flexible, methodical; able to learn and assimilate new information and maintain confidentiality; willingness to travel across any other sites.
