We are looking for a new Radiology Department Assistant to help provide a professional, efficient, and responsive MR service, to patients and service users, in a safe clinical environment.

As this is a static MR RDA post, the role includes specific responsibilities for MRI in addition to standard RDA responsibilities including safety screening, preparing patients for examinations, and cannulating MR patients.

Part time : 30.75 hours per week, flexible working options available.

The role is patient focused, so good communication is essential to assist patients and to demonstrate care and empathy to those who are unwell or distressed, helping them through the Imaging process.

The post holder will contribute to the provision of a high standard of care for patients and carry out some duties unaided, in accordance with Trust/Directorate policy, at the discretion of qualified staff.

  • Work within the multidisciplinary team to assist in the care and preparation of patients undergoing MRI examinations.
  • Undertake the Trust MRI Induction and Training programme and maintain an agreed level of competence.
  • Demonstrate competency, and complete assessments to become an MRI Authorised Personnel.
  • To utilise own initiative as appropriate, and as part of the wider clinical team.
  • Develop and maintain good-working relationships with staff in the Radiology Service and with other personnel in the hospital at all levels.
  • Assist with the induction, supervision and training of other Radiology Department Assistants, Radiography students and MRI Trainee Radiographers, as well as acting as a mentor.
  • Ability to respond appropriately in clinical emergencies with recognition of role and responsibility in emergency situations, ensuring compliance with MRI cardiac arrest and fire procedures.
  • In conjunction with Radiographers, complete daily cleaning checks and fridge checks for all MR areas.
  • Maintain optimum stock levels in all scan rooms and control areas, anticipating replenishment requirements, and ensuring rooms are kept neat and tidy.
  • Preparation of the scan rooms to receive patients, ensuring they are well maintained and comply with health and safety regulations, organising clinical cleans as appropriate.
  • Assisting MR Radiographers with the departmental Quality Assurance programmes to prepare the scan room and coils accordingly.
