The service has a focus on enabling progressive and trauma-informed ways of engaging people, to help improve the experience and outcomes for individuals who experience the world as profoundly unsafe, which is often associated with the diagnostic label of a ‘personality disorder’. Main duties of the job To provide a highly specialist psychological service across the Yorkshire and Humberside Personality Disorder Partnership (YHPDP):• YHPDP offers a suite of services under the national OPD strategy, jointly commissioned by HMPPS and the NHS. Service users will be under Probation and at high risk of seriously harmful reoffending, likely to be linked to severe personality-based difficulties. The trainee will work across the CORE Offender Management service, Discovery Intensive Intervention and Risk Management Service (IIRMS) and Psychologically informed Planned Environment Approved premises (PIPE APs) to enhance the assessment, supervision and risk management of high-risk offenders, including joint casework, and to support the implementation of the OPD Pathway.The post holder will be required to work independently on a day-to-day basis under supervision and subject to review at regular intervals, in accordance with the training route, Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) and British Psychological Society (BPS) guidelines; clinical supervision will usually be offered by a qualified Forensic psychologist (although other qualified healthcare professionals may also contribute).This is a full-time post. The post holder will be expected to undertake the tasks required to demonstrate competencies for training, within the required timeframes, according to the route. Detailed job description and main responsibilities This course is approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and, upon completion, provides students with eligibility to apply to the HCPC register to practice as Forensic Psychologists in the UK . This role is a 3-year fixed term appointment. Progression to a Full time, permanent band 7 role as a Forensic Psychologist is contingent on successful completion of the training and HCPC registration as a Forensic Psychologist.If offered the post, subject to all university and employer checks, the employer will pay the tuition fees for a place on Cardiff Met Practitioner PgD programme which is taught fully online. Ideally, you will have experience of working within the criminal justice system or secure mental health care.The YHPDP team includes psychologists, psychotherapists, occupational therapists, housing workers and probation staff. They are a regional service and part of Leeds ‘Personality Disorder’ services. The team work collaboratively with probation staff to develop risk management plans and support service users to seek the most appropriate treatment for their needs. The aim is to enable thoughtful, compassionate and therapeutic risk management delivered in partnership with colleagues from the Probation Service, with the ultimate aim of reducing reoffending, increasing psychological well-being and developing a workforce with the additional competencies for working effectively with this group. The team draw on a range of psychological theory to best enable non-psychological practitioners to understand behaviour which may often challenge working alliances.The team actively promote and maintain a reflective, safe and supportive culture, and are committed to robust professional leadership, equality, diversity and inclusion and supporting staff wellbeing. Like all colleagues, the Forensic Psychologist in Training will be offered training and development opportunities, and is expected to attend regular clinical and managerial supervision, as well as reflective practice groups.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIESIn order to commence the PgD Forensic Practitioner Programme stage 2 training in Forensic Psychology as advertised in this role, candidates will hold a BPS accredited undergraduate degree in Psychology, a BPS accredited Masters degree in Forensic Psychology and have at least 1 years’ experience in applied forensic psychology. You will have an understanding of interpersonal and personality/related difficulties and/or mental health difficulties and how these relate to offending behaviour. The postholder will be required to provide and receive highly complex, sensitive information relating to service users and their carers whilst working in a highly emotive atmosphere. The post holder will have demonstrable organisational and workload management skills and complete work around the core competencies of the qualification. This will include; • Supporting the psychologically informed case management of the service users, using psychological knowledge and skills through your relationship with the service users and the staff so to influence the systems around them.• Completion of Psychological formulation and assessment • Delivering individual and group-based interventions.• Providing consultation and psychologically informed advice to HMPPS colleagues. Including attending IPP panels and multi-agency public protection arrangements (MAPPA) where appropriate. • As a scientist-practitioner, contribute to service development projects, including training, policy development and research. Projects may be presented to conferences or published. • Completing all requirements of the PgD programme. Although the YHPDP office base is in Leeds, the organisation has moved towards increased agile working, so the post holder may work remotely for some of the time each week. The post requires regular travel across the region. Person specification Qualifications and registration Essential criteria BPS accredited undergraduate psychology degree, which confers eligibility for graduate basis for chartership with BPS AND BPS accredited MSc degree in Forensic Psychology required for registration to Stage 2 of the Forensic Psychology training qualification Training Essential criteria Minimum of 12 months experience working in a forensic and/or clinical forensic service undertaking direct work with forensic populations.
