We want you to join our Masonry Specialist Craft Team on a full-time permanent contract. We are seeking a new Stone Mason to join the growing Specialist Craft Team, based at the National Trust’s Masonry Workshop at Hardwick Hall, near Chesterfield in Derbyshire.

Internally you'll be known as a Building Craftsperson (Mason) Due to the nature of this role, a full UK driving license will be required. What it's like to work here:You'll be part of a specialist crafts team delivering quality stone masonry work. The team has a base at Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire and works at National Trust properties in the Midland and East of England Region.

The Stonemasons yard is located a short distance from the main hall, with picturesque views of the surrounding parkland.

What you'll be doing:You don’t have to be a Master Craftsperson to apply. If you have experience in stonemasonry, a strong work ethic, like to work and learn as part of a team and have the social skills to match, then we would love to hear from you.

The Specialist Craft Teams are new within the National Trust, and thus we’re looking for someone who is dynamic and willing to learn, change, and evolve as new ways of working are established. As part of your role, you are encouraged to voice your ideas of how the team can be improved over time.

The team can be commissioned to undertake any manner of traditional stone masonry work on our historic buildings and structures across the region. Typically, you will be working on anything from stonemasonry pieces in our banker shop, to being out on site pointing and fixing the stones that have been worked to paving and rebuilding historic structures within the region.

You’ll also be expected to engage with property visitors when undertaking work on site, including answering their questions and helping with engagement events when required.

Who we're looking forWe'd love to hear from you, if you have:

  • Good experience in Stonemasonry and historic buildings
  • Good people skills enabling strong relationships with internal and external customers
  • Demonstrate a willingness to undertake additional training offered by the National Trust to maintain and develop skills
  • Knowledge of relevant Health & Safety legislation, and compliance requirements
  • Ability to demonstrate and share good work practices and sound knowledge
  • Willingness to be flexible as sites will be at National Trust properties across the Midland and East of England Region.
