We have a new and exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer - Product & Planning to be based at our Cowes Site on a 12 month Fixed Term Contract As the new Manufacturing Engineer - Product & Planning you will be Providing manufacturing engineering capability to operational and development programmes to enable and deliver zero defects projects utilising engineering and problem solving skills.The successful candidate will be accountable for delivering robust, capable manufacturing processes technology as it applied to materials, tooling, part fabrication and assembly. How You'll Contribute Exemplifying a safety-first mind-set and ensuring compliance with the GKN Aerospace Health, Safety and Environmental policies and standards. Responsible for the development of technical solutions to complex problems within GKN Aerospace, our customers and suppliers. Deliver technical support of manufacturing process development and integration for production. Utilize root cause analysis, preventative and corrective action to reduce/eliminate non-conformances. Maintain positive, team relationships with internal and external customers, as well as co-workers. Continuously improve production processes by implementing Lean initiatives. Responsible for the development of manufacturing process solutions to complex problems through: Accountable for the implementation of production planning, from original concept through to production. Design these processes to a high level of process capability through utilizing the GKN standard Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) tool suite. Accountable for product development, first article development, configuration changes, build process definition and implementation. What You'll Bring Essential: Technical expertise in Manufacturing Engineering, with a professional qualification (university degree) or an ONC and background in engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical). Fully competent in own field of work, developing skills in other areas. Increasingly able to provide Technical input at all levels of work. Capable of being a technical representative, representing the business at a customer/supplier meeting. Identifies and anticipates technical problems and offers solutions. Drives to complete the job on time and continually searches for better ways of doing things. Understands situations by analysing them logically and uses information in a systematic way identifying appropriate course of action for resolution. Ability to apply complex and non-routine analysis. Acts without supervision in own area whilst able to supervise others. Applies knowledge and skills to a range of activities. Understands the formal and informal structure if the business. Able to show commercial awareness at a local level. Able to explain concepts to a variety of audiences and ensures meaning is understood. Creates and builds formal networks with key decision makers internally and externally. Carries out continuing professional development (CPD) necessary to ensure competence in areas identified and at the future professional level intended. Able to develop new ideas, Working knowledge of quality system models such as ISO9000, AS9100, or D1-9000. Fluent in English language, both written and spoken. Able to demonstrate the ability to work, and deliver, under own initiative. Prepared to work on the complete range of GKN Aerospace programmes, both civil and military. Able to travel as required. Understanding of APQP AS9145 principles. Alongside the essential criteria above, you will also be able to demonstrate the following experience: Minimum experience: ONC and 3 year background in engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical), Recognised Technical Apprenticeship, or Degree or HNC/HND + 3 years’ experience. Knowledge of processing methods and products of GKN. Experience of continuous improvement and lean management. Good interpersonal team working skills with the ability to influence stakeholders. Proven ability to work and to deliver under own initiative. Ability to manage and to coordinate internal/external customer requirements. Achieving delivery to time cost and quality. PC literate – MS office programs. Self-motivated, resourceful, strong minded and committed. Innovative toward all aspects of the job. Flexible and capable of working in a complex environment. Good reporting and communication skills on project status and progress. Capable of interfacing professionally with customers and suppliers. For internal candidates, the foundation of the ME Academy must be completed and training initiated to become a zero defect practitioner and 6σ Green Belt.
