The NIHR Central Commissioning Facility (CCF), based in Twickenham, manages circa £550+ million pa of NIHR research and infrastructure funding and works alongside the NIHR Office for Clinical Research Infrastructure (NOCRI), which ensures patient benefit by establishing innovative partnerships with public, charity and industry research funders. The Centre for Evidence and Dissemination (CED), CCF and NOCRI and Innovations constitute the Grant Management Group (GMG). The TeamThe Governance, Performance and Improvement is a small team of individuals who have primary and secondary responsibilities to mitigate against single points of failure. All members of the team will have the opportunity to work across all areas of responsibility, which offers individuals a breadth of experience and development. If you’re a proactive leader with a strategic mindset and a commitment to optimising operations, we invite you to apply and contribute to shaping the future of GMG.The governance structure at GMG comprises of:Contract Management Boards which have strategic and operational oversight of the performance and compliance of GMG in relation to the contract held with the customer/client DHSC, NHS, Health and Care Research Wales, and UKRI/MRC Intellectual PropertyDirector’s Group who are responsible for remuneration, organisational structure and review of other confidential information in relation to customers DHSC, NHSEGMG Board which is responsible for the oversight and management of GMG business and setting strategic directionSenior Leadership Group which is responsible for providing senior leadership across GMG, ensuring that GMG strategy and plans are operationalised and their teams deliver to a high standardThe GPI Manager role is integral to ensuring high quality service is provided to enable an effective and efficient governance within GMG as well as having responsibility in a variety of areas that are within the remit of the Governance, Performance and Improvement team..The remit for the GPI team is a broad one, hence we are looking for individual (s) that have a specialism in one or more of the areas listed below and have the willingness and desire to broaden their knowledge and skills. In support of this, the GPI Manager will need to develop a detailed understanding of GMG operations and the context of the wider NIHR, forge strong internal and external networks, and ensure that linkages and dependencies are well-understood.Key Responsibilities (NB: The areas listed below will be split into Primary and Secondary depending on the skills and knowledge of the successful candidate):GeneralManage the honorarium process, liaising with other stakeholders to ensure efficiency and effectiveness through accurate and timely documentation managementReview Policies and Standard Operating Procedure documents relating to corporate and Information Governance to maintain accuracy of processes and to highlight improvements.GovernanceProvide expert advice and operational delivery of all areas of governance supporting the Governance, Performance and Improvement Lead in ensuring best practice is implementedProvide a high standard of secretariat support to a number of meetings which will include:Plan and coordinate the production of high-quality agenda, papers, and presentations for their respective Contract Management BoardsExercise quality control to ensure papers effectively and clearly present information and cases for considerationWrite clear and succinct minutes within 48 hours of the meeting and take the lead on appropriate pot-meeting actions to ensure implementation and dissemination of decisions arising from the meetings as required.Risk ManagementAssist with the development of effective and efficient risk management processes and proceduresUndertake risk assessments and risk evaluations at a corporate levelProvide support and training to teams on their approach to risk management and development of risk registersComplaints ManagementBe responsible for the effective management of complaints, internal and/or external, including investigations, accurate recording, tracking, monitoring, reporting and analysisManage or oversee the most complex, sensitive or difficult (for whatever reason) complaints confidently and sensitively, knowing when to escalate or to seek advice from more senior staffInformation GovernanceTo support the Senior Information Governance Manager in carrying out Data Protection Audits, Data Protection Impact Assessments and ensuring that the ROPA is up to date and maintainedContinuous ImprovementWork with the Senior Project and CI Manager, liaising with teams across GMG on the identification of process improvement opportunities, particularly in line with implementing best practice and ensuring compliancePlanning Work with the Senior Project and CI Manager, liaising with teams across GMG to ensure that annual planning cycle runs smoothly and that all plans are regularly reviewed and updatedQuality - Compliance ManagementWork closely with the Quality and Compliance Manager to identify opportunities for improving the collection and quality of formal documentation (policies, standard operating procedures and guidance) and liaise with appropriate teams across GMG to implement the improvementsQualificationsBehaviours and Competencies Required: Curious, tenacious, and questioning mind with an appetite to challenge the status ensure continuous improvementProactive individual with a strong work ethosExcellent written skills with emphasis on attention to detailGood communication and influencing skills with an ability to develop strong relationships.Strong organisation, time management and prioritisation skills.Required Knowledge, Experience and Technical Skills:Required Criteria Understanding and experience of corporate governanceExperience of delivering high level secretariat service, including writing minutes and papers to a high standardManaging and presenting complex information so that it is clear and conciseMicrosoft Office, G Suite and project management softwareIdentifying and implementing improvement opportunitiesExperience of contribution to the writing and maintenance of policies, procedures and work instructionsDesired Criteria  Experience of writing and maintenance of risk registersAn understanding of academic and/or research activities in scienceExperience of research fundingExperience of translating policy into practiceProcess mapping experienceChange management experienceAdditional InformationSalary & Benefits£39,200 to £41,400 Bonus - subject to company performance25 days annual leave, plus public holidays (UK)Enhanced contributory pension schemeLife InsuranceBenenden HealthcareSeason Ticket LoanLaptop, IT equipment and remote IT supportWe offer a range of work life balance and family friendly, flexible working arrangements.This is an office based, hybrid role, with an expectation for all employees to attend our offices a minimum of 4 days a month, which might increase, subject to team requirements.ApplicationIf you are excited about the prospect of joining our team and believe you possess the relevant skills and background, we invite you to apply.
