About Carers First

There are currently 7 million unpaid carers in the UK, and that number is on the rise. Their huge contribution saves our economy £132 billion each year - the cost of a second NHS. Each carer’s needs and situation are as unique as they are, but many face similar challenges. They can struggle to balance employment, finances, or their own wellbeing and time for themselves with their caring role. They may not be aware of the help and support available to them - and that’s why we’re here.

Carers First is a charity that works directly with, and for, thousands of carers, providing personalised information and tailored support in the way that suits them: online, on the phone, or face to face in their local community.

Together for 250,000 carers

Last year, we reached over 165,000 carers (a 39% increase on the previous year. We have been able to make a material difference in carers’ lives as they faced so many challenges. As a result, carers tell us they feel less alone, have maximised their income and are managing better in their caring role, with 90% of carers saying there has been an improvement in their lives because of our support.

By 2024, we aim to have reached 250,000 carers to provide access to information, support and resources online, by phone, or face to face. Our services will be designed with carers, ensuring the support we offer is inclusive and accessible to all carers in different communities.
