An exciting opportunity has arisen for a teaching assistant to be a key part of changing the lives of children aged 11 to 16 at a leading Alternative Education School in Croydon. As a teaching assistant , we would want to see an understandingof stages of development, individual needs and the ability to give positive encouragement and feedback to ensure pupils are reaching their full potential.

We provide opportunities for children who need a safe space outside of home and who need adults around them who provide both a nurturing, encouraging and supportive environment. Progress Schools are small but perfectly formed, having on average 30-55 pupilson roll.

If successful, you would be responsible for supporting all students throughout the school, this may either be in a 1:1 or a whole class support capacity. You will be an integral part of continuing the altruistic work of the Progress Group and giving thepupils the chance to either get back into mainstream schools or progress into a sustained Post 16 pathway.

Expectations within the role :

  • To assist the teacher with writing and monitoring pupil plans reviewing and implementing interventions enabling pupils to understand and meet their targets
  • Support with the delivery of learning activities in the absence of the teacher, e.g., when providing cover supervision or working with pupils outside of the classroom.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with other practitioners, drawing on their strengths and expertise to best support teaching and learning.
  • GCSEs in Maths and English C or 4 grade and above (or an equivalent)
  • Experience of working within an education setting or equivalent.
  • Experience working with vulnerable pupils.
