Community Builder

10hrs/week

£10.87/hour

Main purpose of the role : The Community Builder will work with local residents and partners surrounding the Horizon Community Centre, to encourage more connected communities through a strength based approach to community development (also known as Asset Based Community Development). By researching and developing a deep understanding of the local area, Community Builders will focus on uncovering the key community assets and skills of local people who can begin to shape change and influence outcomes in their area.

The ABCD work will aim to achieve outcomes in reducing community isolation, increasing community participation and ensuring people feel positive about where they live.

The Community Builder role includes :

  • Working in and with the community
  • Asset mapping - understanding what already exists in the community
  • Identifying and enabling those individuals living locally who may organise and support local activities
  • Working with individuals who might need more support
  • Connecting people to services and other groups
  • Supporting new and existing groups
  • Reporting & gathering evidence

Responsibilities, duties and tasks :

  • Engage with local communities around the Horizon centre, to identify and build upon existing strengths and assets, including the gifts of local residents and organisations making a difference to their community, using an Asset Based Community Development approach
  • Identify people with shared passions or skills across the community, and provide the opportunity for them to come together regularly to exchange learning and take action through conversation and connections.
  • To organise online and in person community discussions as a way of bringing people together and facilitating these as appropriate.
  • Using a strengths-based approach to identify and encourage collaboration between organisations and residents who want to build vibrant and inclusive communities.
  • Connect communities with opportunities, resources and influence across Worcester and the County by working closely with partner organisations including the voluntary service, parish councils and district collaboratives.
  • Establish a Community Association that drives opportunities and empowers local people to take the lead on the development of activities within the Warndon/Green Hub and surrounding area
  • Support local people to be involved in decision making and co-design community led initiatives to ensure successful delivery of projects, transforming ideas into action.
  • To work confidently alone and with other Community Builders in the district to ensure successful delivery of projects and increasing learning opportunities.
  • Capture and share learning and key findings regularly with programme partners. and to champion the ABCD model in your role and across the organisation.
  • Actively collect evidence of outputs and outcomes, ensuring consistent implementation of monitoring & evaluation. Including keeping written records, recording case studies and stories as appropriate.

General duties :

  • To ensure that you and any staff you are responsible for are taking positive actions to safeguard young people and adults when they are in contact with and follow policies and procedures around safeguarding appropriate to level of post.
  • To maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job, participating in appropriate training activities and encouraging and supporting staff in their development and training.
  • To undertake such other duties, training and/or hours of work as may be reasonably required, and which are consistent with the general level of responsibility of this job.
  • To undertake health and safety duties commensurate with the post and/or as detailed in the Trust’s Health and Safety Policy.
  • In all contacts the postholder will be required to present a good image of the Trust as well as maintaining constructive relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Help to identify your own training needs and participate in training where requested to do so
  • Ensure that all financial guidelines and procedures are understood and adhered to as appropriate
  • Act as an advocate for WCT and work closely with partner organisations
