JOB DETAILS Responsible To: Cruise Director & Assistant Cruise Director (onboard), Cruise Technical Manager (Shoreside) Working Hours: You will be contracted to work up to ten hours per day, seven days per week whilst on board; these exact hours and timings will vary from day to day, dependent on the needs of the business. In order to comply with ILO directives, it is your personal responsibility to ensure that you receive a minimum of ten hours rest in each 24-hour period (you will receive specific training on this prior to joining). As part of the department’s management, the ETM must remain flexible and be prepared for the working hours to change to support the entertainment programme or rectify any technical issues that might arise. Place of Work: Marella Cruise Ships (TUI) Requirements JOB SUMMARY Reporting to the Cruise Director, the Entertainment Technical Manager will direct and manage the Entertainment Technical team on board and support the Cruise Director in delivering the entertainment programme making sure the technical side of the operation runs efficiently and smoothly. The Entertainment Technical team consists of a Broadcast Manager, 3 Senior Technicians (Sound, Lighting and Stage Manager) and 5 Entertainment Technicians. The Entertainment Technical team is part of the Entertainment Department, which also includes of a team of Entertainment Hosts, Show Cast Members, a Children’s Host team, as well as a Musical Director and team of Resident Musicians. The Entertainment Department is directed and coordinated by the Cruise Director and Assistant Cruise Director. As the Manager in charge of the Entertainment Technical Department, you will be in charge of every technical aspect of the entertainment operation on board, ranging from the sound, lighting, video and automation in all lounges and venues ship wide. You will make sure that all the technical needs from the Show Cast, the Musicians, Entertainment Hosts are met on a daily basis and coordinate the set-up of all AV systems on board to ensure the programme delivery. You will also be required to operate the AV systems nightly basis. As the Entertainment Technical Manager, you will be the link between ted’s Technical department shoreside and the ship. You will make sure that all production shows, light entertainment, live music sets and events are delivered up to the highest technical standard on board and are up to the standards agreed during the initial ship install period and team changeover periods. As one of the department managers, you will be in charge of the daily Entertainment Technical schedule, making sure all events on board are appropriately manned and supported. You will manage the Entertainment Technical team on a daily basis and be in charge of the training of the Entertainment Technicians in order to help their career progression within the company. You will also oversee the Broadcast operation and make sure the Broadcast Manager is supported and coached in the performance of their duties. As the Entertainment Technical Manager, you will also be responsible for the maintenance, repair and replacement of the entertainment technical assets onboard. You will have to work alongside the ship technical department on board to ensure that repairs are carried out in a timely fashion and the delivery of the entertainment product is not affected. As a member of the Entertainment Department, a position of responsibility will be held with regards to emergency procedures, guest mustering and drills; specific training will be received regarding this, both prior to joining and regularly on board. You are an ambassador of ted and Marella Cruises. KEY TASKS Responsibilities • To support the Cruise Director in delivering the entertainment product from the technical point of view. • To manage and direct the Entertainment Technical Team on board making sure the day to day operation is efficient and all events are manned. • To liaise with the Show Cast Manager to ensure all the cast technical needs are met and the operation is safe from a performer’s point of view at all times. • To liaise with the Assistant Cruise Director to meet any technical needs of the entire department are met, including visiting guest entertainers. • To work with the Assistant Cruise Director and make sure all production needs are met on a daily basis and the operation of the department is flawless. • To regularly review the technical operation of the department with the Assistant Cruise Director in order to optimise workflows and make sure the entertainment delivery is always up to standard. • To ensure the Entertainment Technical team’s working hours are compliant with ILO regulations. • To ensure continuity in the delivery of the entertainment product onboard, as per ted’s guidelines set during the show install period. • To cover any of the Senior Technicians positions (sound, lights, automation and broadcast) in case of illness or absence of the crew member. • To operate AV systems in ship wide venues as required on a nightly basis. • To take ownership of all technical assets (sound, lights, video, automation) in each venue on board and co-ordinate the maintenance schedule. • To coach and guide the junior members of the team and put a training programme in place to allow career progression within the company. • To establish and maintain a good working relationship with the onboard Chief Engineer, Electrician and other officers to make sure all repairs are carried out in a timely fashion so not to affect the product delivery. • To coordinate and direct the Broadcast operation, being the sole reporting point for the Broadcast manager. To facilitate the Broadcast recording, editing and streaming operation by supporting the Broadcast manager in the daily performance of his duties. • To be flexible and ready to adapt to the constantly evolving needs of the entertainment department on board, re-organising the team’s schedule to meet the new needs of the operation under the direction of the Cruise Director. • To take ownership of the departments Health & Safety requirements and ensure that all risk assessments are adhered to and implemented. Ensure that all the entertainment operation is compliant with the company H&S directives and the working methods are safe at all times. • To attend regular meetings with other onboard management. Work closely with the Safety Officer to assess department Health & Safety policies and ensure that the entertainment operation is compliant with Marella’s onboard guidelines. • To ensure your appearance and grooming guidelines are maintained at all times. • To uphold the standards set out in your training. • A position of onboard responsibility will be held with regards to emergency procedures, guest mustering and drills (full training received on board). Experience & Skillset The Entertainment Technical Manager should have at least 3 years of relevant industry experience and/ or qualifications in production management, project management, theatre technical management or similar. Operational sound, lighting or stage management or equivalent or relevant work experience is mandatory as well a thorough understanding of a vast range of modern audio visual equipment. Good knowledge of digital sound mixing console (Soundcraft, Yamaha and Digico), digital audio processing, Grand MA 2 lighting desks and stage automation systems is preferrable. Experience of working in large venues on a variety of entertainment programmes i.e. live concerts and theatre is desirable The Entertainment Technical Manager must have good knowledge of Health & Safety procedures within the production environment. Other Requirements • Must hold valid STCW training certificates prior to joining the ship. • Must hold a full, valid passport, with at least 9 months validity at time of joining. • Must hold a valid ENG1 or equivalent Seafarer Medical Certificate. • Must hold relevant necessary visas as required. It is recommended that you hold a valid Seamans Book/ ID card or have completed an application for this.
