Some exciting opportunities for Operational Leadership Apprentices have become available at our world-class aerospace manufacturing facility in East Cowes, on the Isle of Wight.

Whilst learning a wide range of leadership and management skills, our four-year programme will provide you with all the development and training that you need to get your career in Operations Management off to a flying start!

With a mixture of both classroom and on-the-job training, you will develop towards becoming a leader of people, helping GKN achieve its goals in the short, medium and long term. This will require a great deal of determination and resilience.

In conjunction with a local training provider, you will be enrolled on the following Apprenticeship Standards: Level 3 - Team Leader / Supervisor

Level 5 - Operations / Department Manager

On completion of your apprenticeship, you are likely to move into a Team Leader position within Manufacturing Operations, or an equivalent role .

Programme Summary : In order to gain a thorough understanding of our products, processes, roles and people within the business, throughout your apprenticeship you will rotate around a number of departments, including but not limited to: Operations (Manufacturing), Lean (Continuous Improvement), Procurement and Supply Chain Management. The will allow you to evidence the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours of your Apprenticeship Standard, whilst developing your leadership ability.

Responsibilities : Whilst on the apprenticeship scheme:

  • To observe the company’s terms and conditions of employment.
  • In both work and training, to be diligent and punctual and attend courses, keep records and undertake any tests determined by the company in order to measure and achieve the training objectives and quality gates.
  • To behave in a responsible manner and in accordance with the requirements of Health and Safety legislation relating to the individual’s responsibilities.
  • To be a good ambassador of the Company’s name and image.
  • To successfully complete all activities documented in the Apprenticeship Training Agreement.

Once qualified as an Operational Team Leader:

  • Being responsible for achieving the Company’s targets through managing People, Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cash and Cost in your area of responsibility.
  • Managing a team to deliver excellence in all areas of their work
  • Creating a ‘Great Place to Work’ for employees through developing a team and supporting a culture of continuous improvement, safe working and open and honest communications.

Job Qualifications : Minimum Requirements :

  • 3 x A-Levels
  • 1 x T-Level
  • Level 3 Diploma

In addition to the above, the following GCSE’s are required:

  • Maths: Grade 6 or above
  • English: Grade 6 or above

PLEASE ALSO NOTE the position requires UK National Security Vetting (UKNSV) Security clearance (SC) due to the nature and responsibilities of the work carried out. In order for us to obtain an SC you usually need to have been resident in the UK for a minimum of 5 years to current date (but we do assess each case individually)
