Mechanical Engineer OSI Maritime Systems (UK), 8-10B Dragoon House, Waterlooville, Hampshire, United Kingdom Req #157 February 1, 2024 The Job The Mechanical Engineer is part of the engineering team that develops marine navigation and bridge systems for OSI’s government and naval markets that offer market leading performance and reliability, minimize production costs and are maintainable over an extended lifecycle. The Mechanical Engineer 3 designs, selects, evaluates and documents mechanical components and their interconnection within the bridge systems. Main Responsibilities Performs studies, experiments, research and tests in contributing to the design and development of navigation and bridge system products to established codes, standards, drawings, specifications and customer requirements, for both commercial and military customers Creates and updates mechanical designs based on COTS, military grade products and customized solutions which includes the design and specification of parts and components Assist with writing and maintaining Company’s mechanical engineering standards and best practicesTrains and mentors Junior Mechanical Engineers on Company’s mechanical standards and best practicesUpdates and maintains the Company’s parts databaseReviews hardware requirements, produces hardware design documents, ensuring the proposed solution meets the stated requirementsCreates mechanical designs and provides information to CAD team members for drawing productionReviews designs for adherence to industry and government standards Prepares written plans, calculations, designs, specifications and material listsCarries out technical tasks requiring accuracy of calculations, completeness of data and adherence to prescribed methods Interprets and analyzes design data in preparing feasibility studies and prepares reports for assigned work, resolving technical problems within the scope of the assignment Provides design information and guidance to support personnel, and occasionally to suppliers, in preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabricationEnsures that the resulting design meets system, customer and budgetary requirements and is compliant to industry and government standardsClearly communicates technical and design solutions to other departmentsExecutes engineering change request (CRs) as well as providing supporting justification dataFollows workplace operating and environmental, health and safety procedures and guidelines You Bring Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field plus 5+ years of practical mechanical engineering experienceExperience with mechanical design and design for manufacturingExperience with vibration, shock, thermal, and structural analysis (FEA and MathCAD)Working knowledge of product certification testing to civilian and military standardsProven ability to analyze and solve hardware problemsExperience with SolidWorks and AutoCADExperience with MS Office Suite and SharePointWorking knowledge of peripheral equipment, test, diagnostic and measuring equipmentAbility to thrive as a member of a Project teamOrganized, able to handle multiple projects and prioritize workloadWorking knowledge of certification to standards – knowledge of Shipbuilding codes an asset - for example: Lloyds RulesAbility to design in a strategic manner taking into consideration reliability, ease of manufacture, and cost
